ABOUT JASON ULM
In today’s world, it’s all about adaptability. For a business to succeed, it is extremely important that it be flexible, be able to adapt quickly, and remain current with emerging trends. Social media has changed the way consumers obtain information and products. Consequently, it is imperative that businesses respond to those changes if they are to be successful.
What I’m looking for
I am seeking full-time employment with an organization where I can be a part of a team that creates successful outcomes. I am creative, detail-oriented, and well-organized, and would like to showcase my design and photography skill sets. In addition, I would like the opportunity to expand my management and marketing skills using today’s multimedia tools including web, mobile, video, and photography.
What I have accomplished
I have worked in the visual arts field for more than 25 years, including 12 years as a senior graphic designer at the University of Hartford. My expertise includes: print design, photography, photo editing, presentations, exhibits, light web, and digital design work.
While at the University, I was responsible for designing a wide range of visual materials, including publications, advertisements, and displays that targeted the intended audience. My designs always had to reflect a delicate balance between meeting client objectives while remaining consistent with University standards. I was also responsible for planning, training, mentoring, and overseeing a wide variety of large and small projects—from the initial meetings with the client to delivery of the final projects. I served as an advisor and trainer in the area of brand comprehension and implementation across campus. During my 18 years in that capacity, I successfully oversaw the University of Hartford’s visual identity brand standards and enforced the correct use of them in order to maintain brand consistency for the institution.
Over the years, as the University transitioned from one look to another, I helped to maintain a consistent image of the institution. I conducted brand-education workshops where I trained University of Hartford staff members, students, and outside freelancers on proper and consistent use of the logo and branding. I created templates for various marketing materials to help maintain a current and consistent image. I also addressed inconsistent branding at the campus store by working with a third-party licensing company for two years to ensure that proper, up-to-date, and quality products were being sold.
I shot and directed photo shoots for many types of collateral including the alumni magazine (Observer) and the University’s viewbook. I also edited and archived images (using Lightroom, Photoshop, and a digital asset management database) for a wide range of web and print collateral for the University.
In addition to my strong understanding of design, I have a long-standing record of reliability and an unwavering work ethic. Through my work I have made many connections and networked with numerous outside vendors.
I earned a bachelor’s degree in visual arts and entrepreneurial studies at the University of Hartford. In addition, since 2001, I have served as an Advisory Board member for the fine arts and graphic design curriculum at Middlesex Community College.
What I love doing
I love being part of a team where I can research and brainstorm new ideas, creative concepts, and solutions to challenges and problems that improve our organization and assist our targeted audience. I am always eager to learn new skills and ways to better myself, both at work and at home, and I especially enjoy sharing what I have learned through teaching and mentoring others. My personal creative outlet is photographing landscapes and nature scenes.
I hope you will check out my design work, fine art photography, and résumé.
